Frank Henry Uchman's Obituary
UCHMAN, FRANK HENRY Passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Frank (“Jaja” to his loving children and grandchildren) is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years Margaret “Peggy” Uchman, sister Stephanie Box, son Chris Uchman, daughter Lyn Graham, stepdaughters Jane Graffeo Sarosdy, Susan Graffeo, Genevieve Graffeo Stubbs and stepsons, Joseph V. Graffeo, III, Francis Graffeo, Stephen Graffeo, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was born on February 10, 1921 in Belleville, Michigan, to Joseph & Salomea Piatek Uchman.He proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 27 years, working in mechanical services at federal institutions in Alderson, West Virginia, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Texarkana, Texas. He served as Chief of Mechanical Services at the U.S. Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois. He retired as Regional Director of Facilities for the U.S. Prison Service’s Southwest Region. Frank and Peggy Uchman were faithful parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson for many years. Frank served as an usher and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He cared deeply about helping those in need, especially veterans and the disabled. In his leisure time, he enjoyed rooting for the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as cooking, gardening, fishing, and traveling with Peggy. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and true friend, with a helping hand and a generous heart for all. He will be fondly remembered for his kind, caring nature and his zest for life. Visitation and a rosary service will be held at Restland Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 S. Floyd Road, Richardson, Texas 75080. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s name to the Special Olympics, http://www.specialolympics.org/ , Texas Paralyzed Veterans, http://www.texaspva.org/ , or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
