Frankie Cantu's Obituary
CANTU, FRANKIE 67 of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Tuesday, July 16, 2013. The son of Victor and Angelina Cantu, he was born in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Adamson High School and later from Southern Methodist University for his bachelor and master degrees. He valiantly served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he received two Purple Hearts and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone in Vietnam. He is survived by his beloved wife Leonor Marquez Cantu, his daughter Lisa Cantu Saldivar, son-in-law Richard Saldivar, son Alan Post, daughter-in-law Lisa Chaki Post, grandchildren Kristina Cantu Saldivar, Rico Saldivar, Isabel Saldivar, Joshua Post, Alison Post, his sisters Margaret Mooneyham, Gloria Norris, Frances Kipling, and brother John Cantu. He worked nearly 50 years for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services in Dallas and in Washington, D.C. His most recent position prior to his retirement in March 2013 was the Field Director the Division of Border Health of the Health Resources and Services Administration. A longtime resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, Frank served as a commissioner on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a founding member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Grand Prairie and served on its original building committee. His lifelong commitment to service was exemplified in his work as a public servant and a tireless advocate for the poor and underserved people. Frank is deeply loved and will be missed by his family, friends, and business colleagues. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Restland Memorial Chapel with a Rosary at 7:00 PM in the chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dallas, TX.
