Gean J. Hannum's Obituary
Hannum, Gean J. Earhart was born September 5, 1913, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She passed away June 5, 2011. Gean was the daughter of Fred and Elsie Todd Earhart and she was a descendant of aviatrix, Amelia Earhart, as well as Mary Todd Lincoln. Her father was the youngest American soldier to serve in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Gean was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was an accomplished violinist. She was married to her devoted husband of thirty-two years, C. David Hannum, until his death in 1972. They moved to Dallas in 1949 and she began a lifelong career in fashion at Neiman-Marcus, becoming one of their leading sales associates for many years. She participated in the opening of their Preston Center and NorthPark stores. Following her retirement from Neiman’s, she worked with designer, Carlos Falchi. Mrs. Hannum was preceded in death by her husband, David, her grandons, Matthew David Hannun, and her daughter-in-law Muriel Velde Hannum. She is survived by her son, Frederick David Hannum and his wife Eileen Hudnall Hannum, her grandson, John Eric Hannum and his wife Karri McNeil Hannum and her great-grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary and Matthew Hannum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muriel Velde Hannum Scholarship Fund, Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. 56562, or the Wounded Warrior Fund, 901 8th St. South, P. O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675. A private graveside service will be held at Restland Memorial Park.
