Dr. George Dodson Lindsey's Obituary
George Dodson Lindsey was born in Dallas, Texas to George E. and Sue Lindsey. He attended North Dallas High School where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Dennie Davis. George graduated from North Dallas in 1962 and he and Dennie married that year. He went on to earn his B.S., M.S., and Ed.D degrees from East Texas State University. He was certified as a principal and superintendent. He began his teaching career in Greenville ISD and Nacogdoches ISD. After earning his doctorate, Dr. Lindsey taught at San Diego Christian College, was the Director of Faculty and Curriculum at LeTourneau University, and was an Adjunct Professor for The Institute for Creation Research. During the Vietnam War era, Lt. Lindsey was awarded a direct commission from the Navy and served as an Aerospace Physiologist both in Pensacola, Florida and at the Naval Air Test Center in Patuxent River, Maryland. Anyone who knew George knew that he loved golfing, fishing, tennis, and an occasional pickup basketball game. He was a gifted speaker and sought-after communicator and teacher. Many of his former students have remembered with fondness his devotionals and influence in their lives. He enjoyed good food and good friends. George loved his family very much. He was married to Dennie for almost 53 years. George was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren and extended family. George and Dennie also welcomed 7 foster children into their home over the years. He always made family a priority. George’s faith was strong and he enjoyed serving at church. Much of his life was involved with church ministry. He taught many Sunday School classes, served on the elder board at Cedar Creek Bible Church, and helped at various churches coordinating media outreaches including the beginnings of Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah. He also took several mission trips to share his faith in different countries. It would be his greatest wish that anyone who knew him would see George’s life and be called to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Dennie Lindsey of Dallas, Texas. daughter, Deedra Lindsey Scherm and her husband, Kris; son, Charles Edward Lindsey and his, wife Carrie; grandchildren, David, Keifer, Charlie, Jack and Claire; his brother, Paul Lindsey and wife, Gayle, and his brother, Rodney Lindsey and his wife, Peggy. Also an extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and their spouses, great nieces and nephews, cousins, foster children, and more. He has joined his son David Mark in heaven. The service for George Lindsey will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 2:30 PM in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with a visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
