Gerald Wayne Whatley's Obituary
Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Whatley passed away on March 6, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Whatley Pearson, her husband, Garry Pearson, Jerry’s brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Wacine Whatley, and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, TX, on July 28, 1940. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1958 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.
After his 40-year defense industry career at Texas Instruments and SAIC, he retired to southwestern NM. There, he enjoyed life in the wilderness flying his Beechcraft Bonanza plane, working on projects in the hangar, and playing his keyboard and guitar. Music was always important to him, and even in his last days, he planned to teach himself to play the accordion.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, March 17, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research or your favorite charity.
