Glenn Philip Houston's Obituary
Glenn Philip (Phil) Houston, 94, died on July 28, 2020, in Plano, TX. Born on May 16, 1926, in Davenport, IA, son of Glenn Frederick and Victoria Boyles Houston. He graduated from City High in Iowa City, IA, in 1944, and served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. In 1950 in Omaha, NE, he married Doris Anderson, who preceded him in death on August 9, 2017, after 67 years of marriage.
Phil was also preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his brother Richard F. Houston, and his daughter Jill Houston Grant. He is survived by one daughter, Susan Houston Lacy (Norris) of State College, PA, and two sons, Jeffrey Scott of Plano and Douglas Alan (Kemie) of Castle Rock, CO, and one sister, Jan Houston Tuohy of Flint, MI. Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Phil was employed by Motorola Communications & Electronics engaged primarily with government account sales and as Control Center Consultant in Omaha, NE, Sioux City, IA, Shawnee, KS, and Dallas, TX. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richardson since 1971 serving on many committees. He often volunteered his time at St. Luke’s as part of the “Yard Birds” lawn mowing crew. Additionally, he regularly delivered food for VNA’s Meals on Wheels. He sharpened his mind by completing daily crossword puzzles. Phil enjoyed 1940s swing music, and was a devoted University of Iowa Hawkeye football fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, Meals on Wheels, the Juvenile Diabetes Association or St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Restland Funeral Services in Dallas.
