Gloria June Jones' Obituary
JONES, JUNE EARNEST passed away Friday morning, September 28, 2007, shortly after her 75th Birthday. She died from complications following bypass surgery for vascular disease. She was born in Dallas on September 27, 1932 to William Herbert and Uma Mae ‘Jolly’ Earnest. She led an exceptional life, starting at age 8, leading the Adamson High School Marching Band as their twirler and tiny mascot. She graduated from Adamson High School in 1949, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and won numerous awards, scholarships and essay writing contests. She was a Dallas Quiz Kid, a Miss Dallas Finalist and a member of the first Neiman Marcus Career Advisory Board. She earned a BA in Psychology from the Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1953, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, serving as President for two years, a lady-in-waiting to the Urchin Beauty Court Queen and a Queen of the Engineering School. She also completed graduate studies in Psychology at the University of Iowa. June was the original independent woman and remained so until the end of her life. She founded Olympic Properties, Inc., a successful commercial real estate brokerage firm. She was an accomplished duplicate bridge player and enjoyed her many bridge groups around the city. She was also a member of the Dallas Eagle Forum and the Northwood Institute. With her signature red hair and gregarious laugh, she was always a style-setter who loved fashion and working markets at the Dallas Apparel Mart for 25 years. She will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband Spaulding E. Jones. She is survived by her three daughters, April Jones Lykos and husband Tom Lykos, Autumn Jones and Summer Jones, three grandchildren, Tommy, Helen and Philip Lykos, her brother Jack Earnest and wife B.J. Earnest, brother William Earnest, nieces and nephews, and her dear companion of 17 years, Tony Zoppi.
