Hazel June Gruver's Obituary
Dallas, TX - Hazel June Gruver passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on February 5th, 2020. She was born in Independence, Kansas to Ralph and Jennie Grady. Hazel grew up attending schools in Augusta, Kansas graduating from High School in 1941. She married Clark A. Gruver also of Augusta in June 1945, who preceded her in death.
In their lives together they followed the oil businesses of that era, living in several countries and raising their 3 children as expatriates. They also lived in several cities in the United States ultimately settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Daughter Gail Ann preceded her in death. Surviving children include her son John (Linda) Grady; her daughter Molly “Kay” (Bruce) Gruver Bishop; grand-daughters Charlotte and Victoria Bishop of whom she was very proud, and step-grand-daughter Tierney Bishop Bowman. Hazel is also survived by her younger sister Anna Haaga of Douglas, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Much of her life was spent living overseas in oil field camps; where in the beginning, the houses were very rustic. She always stayed connected to her high school classmates, and the many special and close friends they met through the challenges of this lifestyle. Christmas was always a special time, not just for the gathering of the family, but sending and receiving hundreds of cards most with long and interesting hand written notes. A tradition Hazel continued as long as she was able. She was also an excellent cook and she enjoyed entertaining the many friends accumulated over their lifetime. After Clark passed away she moved to the Dallas area to be closer to her children.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta, KS. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with services set for 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta following the service.
