Hazel Narcissus Rickerson Timmer's Obituary
Hazel Narcissus Rickerson Timmer, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at age 90. She was born in Cushing, Texas to the late Alberta and Gerthie McKnight on June 23, 1930.
Hazel spent her childhood in an East Texas farming community, before attending nursing school at Baylor School of Nursing in Dallas. She worked as a surgical nurse for a general surgeon in Mineral Wells and met her husband John Rickerson, a pharmaceutical representative. They were blessed with three children and Hazel left nursing to commit to raising them. John, Hazel, and kids moved multiple times due to corporate relocation, before eventually landing in San Antonio, Texas. Once their children were raised they made a final move to the Dallas area. Hazel would remarry in 2011 to Ray Timmer, whom she met at Lewisville Estates. They had a common love for gardening and put that passion into the development of this beautiful garden we are standing in today. Hazel and Ray would name it the Friendship Garden. Hazel was characterized by her constant upbeat attitude and outgoing personality, with the ability to make a complete stranger feel as though they had known her for years. She was a giver and always wanting to make new friends.
Hazel is survived by her two sons, Bret and Bruce Rickerson, and five grandchildren, Christa and Austin Rickerson, along with, Katelyn, Brandon, and Logan Otten. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Timmer, her daughter Regina Otten, her parents, and four siblings.
Hazel requested a cremation and wanted to host a subsequent celebration of life service at Lewisville Estates, where she made many close friends during the 18 years she lived there. This service will take place on November 7 at 10am outside in the Friendship Garden, at the back of the community. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Hazel during her final days.
