Helen "Meme" Johnson's Obituary
Helen “Meme” Johnson, 94, passed away on October 18, 2022 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by loving family. Helen was born on August 31, 1928 in Culleoka, TX to Frank and Minnie Douglas. Upon graduation from Princeton High School in 1946 she moved to Dallas where she attended beauty school. Upon completion of beauty school, she worked as a manicurist in the barber shop at The Baker Hotel and later in the barber shop at the Meadows Building. In 1966 the Preston Tower opened and on opening day she went to work as a manicurist and men’s hairstylist before retiring in the early 1980s. Helen was also a licensed real estate broker with Carolyn Shamis Realtors and afterwards had her own real estate office in the Preston Tower before retiring from real estate in 1985. Helen moved to the Preston Tower in 1978 and was still living there at the time of her death making her the longest tenured resident of the Preston Tower.
Helen was married to Wilton Lee Behrns in 1949. After Lee’s death she married Raymond Johnson in 1986 with whom she enjoyed 26 years of marriage until Raymond’s death. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and her sister.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Robin Kyle; grandson, Robert Kyle; stepson, Robert (“Buster”) and wife Sherry Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family, devoted friends and all the wonderful individuals who were so special in her life.
Services will be held for Helen on Tuesday, November 1st at 2 PM in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery with a visitation in The Chapel at 1 PM.
