Helen Baker Vaugh's Obituary
Helen Baker Vaugh passed away peacefully on the morning of August 24, 2017, in the company of her beloved husband of 65 years, David, and her beloved sister Dorothy. At the age of 94, her energy for activity and hearing had been declining, but she remained vocal, articulate, and eager to laugh at the challenges of life. When times were tough, she always smiled and said: “it’s time to pick up the pieces and move out.” Now she has moved out to join her Savior in eternal peace. She will be missed by her family and friends.Helen grew up in the small town of Buffalo, Texas where she excelled in academics and athletics as the salutatorian of her high school class and county tennis champion. As youngest of the seven children of Albert and Viola Baker, with five brothers and one sister, she was always outside and active. After graduating from high school, she followed her sister to the big city of Dallas, Texas and began her career at the downtown Mercantile Bank. There, she met her future husband David (an accountant) as he submitted deposits and eventually asked her for a date. They were married on April 19, 1952, and made their home in Richardson, Texas where she worked for Citizens State Bank for many years and David entered private accounting practice. In 1959, Helen gave birth to her only child (Samuel) Kent and remained a wise and wonderful wife and mother throughout her life.Helen is survived by her husband David, sister Dorothy Pate, son Kent and his wife Beverly, grandson Matthew and his wife Jessica, and granddaughter Hannah and her husband Aaron.A memorial service celebrating Helen’s life will be held at 12 noon on August 30, 2017, at Richardson East Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas.Visitation will be 6-8 PM on August 29, 2017, and a brief burial service for family only will begin at 10:30 AM on August 30, 2017, both at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. The family asks that a donation to the charity of your choice be made in lieu of any gift of flowers.
