Helen Emogene Whisenhunt's Obituary
Helen Emogene Grissom Whisenhunt was born on March 13, 1921 and passed away in Dallas on January 9, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Lavora Luther and George Grissom, husband Clarence Lowell “Billy” Whisenhunt, siblings Carl, Ruby Cecile Wagner, Irvin, Corbett, Kenneth and Reagan. She is survived by son Kenneth Wayne Whisenhunt, his wife Judy and their children Kenneth Jr., Kerry, Kim and Jeff; son Barry Lynn Whisenhunt his wife Joyce and their children John and Sandra. Helen was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Great grandchildren are Bailey, Kylan, Morgan, Judd, Blake, Madison and Avery. Helen was born in Caney, Oklahoma and moved to Texas when she was two years old. Her mother died in 1936. Sometime later, her dad moved to Ferris for about a year and worked the cotton fields. During this time, she moved in with the Litvik’s at the store where she worked in South Dallas. While working at this store, she met Billy. They married on March 25, 1939. After having children, Billy didn’t want her to work outside the home. She was a housewife whose hobbies included spending many hours going to garage sales, shopping at the Sears Employees store and the Sears Outlet store. She loved watching her kids play little league baseball. In January of 2015, doctors determined she could no longer safely live at her house and she spent the rest of her life in a nursing facility. In her final years she had to live with dementia. This disease entered her body and changed her life. At first, short term memory vanished and as it progressed her long term memory failed. At times she didn’t recognize her immediate family. She might lay in bed in what appeared to be a stupor and then have moments of clarity and carry on broken conversations about days gone by. She will be missed. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
