Herman T Newsome's Obituary
Mr. Herman T. Newsome was born on December 16, 1938 to the parentage of Willie and Jessie D. Newsome. He married the love of his life, Flordia Sims Newsome and to this union no children were born. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965 as an Airman 1st Class. Herman was an accomplished educator with a true heart for children and their education and had over 33 years of service to the Dallas Independent School District. Herman received his B.S. in Science Education in 1961 and his M.Ed. in 1970 from Prairie View A&M College. He began his career as a Science teacher at Elisha M. Peace Elementary School followed by a position as a Curriculum Developer at Paul L. Dunbar Center. He worked as an Administrative Intern at Thomas Edison Middle School followed by his promotion as an Assistant Principal at Alex Spence Junior High School (1971), James Madison High School (1975), Reinhardt Elementary School (1981) and Principal at Umphrey Lee Elementary School (1989-1998). He retired as a principal from the Dallas Independent School District. Mr. Newsome is preceded in death by his wife, Flordia Sims Newsome; his parents, Willie and Jessie D. Newsome; and eight siblings. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved sister, Dr. Margie V. Borns; a host of nieces and nephews; and many many friends. Services will be at 12:30pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
