Hugh Grant "Papa" Powell's Obituary
Grant was born on December 10, 1943 in Jacksonville, Texas to Garnett and Edna Powell. He passed away on August 28, 2014 in Mesquite, Texas. Married 50 years; retired from TXU after 35 years; his favorite sport was basketball and he loved to watch the Dallas Mavericks. He enjoyed spending time at his childhood home affectionately known as “The Farm”. Preceded in death by his mother, Edna Lena Foster Powell and his father, Garnett Thomas Powell, and his sister, Edwina Powell Clarke. Grant is survived by his wife, Johnnie Louise Galyean Powell; daughter, Delynda Kay Venable and husband, Patrick Logan; granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Powell; great granddaughter, Emily Mae Powell; grandson, Jeremy Kyle Sabih and wife, Mina Kavone; sister, Nelda Moody; his shadow, Duke the dog; and also many cousins and extended family members. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Services for Grant will take place at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238.
