Hughston Thomas' Obituary
Hughston Thomas was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 25, 1929, to Rev. Foy Thomas and Irene Hughston Thomas. He passed away on March 7, 2018. His father, a Methodist minister, served in many churches in south and north Texas, and also served as a chaplain in the army beginning in 1943. At that time, Hughston and his mother moved to McKinney to the home of her parents, Sen. and Mrs. Wallace Hughston. Hughston went to high school in McKinney, later moved to Dallas, and graduated from North Dallas High School. He graduated from Southern Methodist University and the SMU School of Law, then spent two years in military service.In 1956 Hughston met and married Carolyn Lamon from Memphis, Tennessee. Within a few years they had two sons, Stuart Allen Thomas and Scott Hughston Thomas.Hughston worked for United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co., holding various management positions in Dallas, Lubbock, and San Antonio. He retired as Claim Manager in 1990 after 34 years.During those years, he served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and Youth Leader, and was a long time active member of Casa Linda United Methodist Church, where he served in many different roles, including president of the Coffee Cup Class. He was a member of the State Bar Association, Roy Stanley Lodge, the AGE Council of the Senior Source, the Routh Cemetery Association, and the Dallas Metro L.I.F.E Music Club. He was also a long time Trustee of Son Shine Ministries.Hughston’s wife Carolyn Thomas predeceased him in 2006. He is survived by his sons Stuart Thomas, and Scott Thomas and wife Liz Thomas; granddaughters Kelly Thomas, and Erin Lombard and husband Nick Lombard; and good friend Lou Brochu.Memorials may be made to Casa Linda United Methodist Church, 1800 Barnes Bridge Rd., Dallas, TX 75228; or Son Shine Ministries, P.O.
