Ila Compton's Obituary
Ila “La Verne” Compton Of Mesquite, Tx, born January 17, 1934 in Dallas and passed away September 6, 2011 peacefully from the arms of her loving family to the loving arms of her Lord. La Verne enjoyed a successful career of 41 years with TP&L. She was an avid bowler for over 50 years. She was a faithful and active member of Bethany Baptist Church for 56 years and was known as “The Hugging Lady”. La Verne was also a 1951 alumni of Adamson High School in Dallas. She always enjoyed the company of her retirees, bowling, and church families. If friends were flowers, she would have a botanical garden. The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice for their loving care for the past 2 months. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett & Frances Compton; beloved sister, Lawanah Hogue Leet; grandparents, Lynn & Jennie Corzine and best friend Coreene Wells. La Verne is survived by her loving niece & nephews, Sheila Leet and husband Erick; Glenn Hogue and friend Sheila Sheffer; Gregg Hogue and wife Bunkie; 5 great nieces; 4 great nephews; 7 great, great nieces; 9 great, great nephews; 1 aunt and numerous cousins. Pastor Jeff Campbell and Chaplin Paul Ramler will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be “Her Boys” from TP&L Engineering.Services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11 am at Bethany Baptist Church, 7300 Bruton Rd. in Dallas with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church in memory of La Verne
