Isaac Newton Fehr's Obituary
Another of the Greatest Generation passed away at home in Dallas, Texas on April 28, 2008. Known to his many friends as Newt. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend was born in Trenton, Missouri, June 17, 1923. and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Southwest High School and Kansas State University. At age 19 he interrupted his college career in February 1943 to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Newt served in WWII as a B-25 bomber pilot with 70 combat missions, based in Corsica and Italy. During combat he was awarded the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Presidential Unit Citations. He was proud to have served with his fellow aviators and airmen, many of whom did not return. Following his war service, Newt returned to Kansas State and earned a B.S. from Kansas State, majoring in political science. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity with life long friends through that association. June 29, 1947 he married his college sweetheart Doris Dickey. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2007. In 1948 Newt started a career in the baking industry which spanned 50 years. During his career with Campbell Taggart Inc. he became a senior vice president of the company and enjoyed much success through the early 1970’s. In 1978 Newt became an entrepreneur by acquiring Meads Bakeries. He headed Meads subsequently known as Fehrmead until his retirement . His great passion away from the baking industry was his involvement with Deer Trail Mines and it successor companies located in central Utah. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is also survived by son Steve Fehr and his wife Vicki of Abilene, Texas, son Roger Fehr of Austin, Texas, grandsons Bart Fehr and Brian Fehr, great granddaugthers London Jean and Vail Linnea Fehr. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Physicians and Visiting Nursing Association Hospice for their compassionate and professional care. Also heartfelt thanks to audiologist John Gehm for his tireless efforts in assisting with Newt’s profound hearing loss disability. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian church, 9800 Preston Rd, Dallas Texas.
