Jack Covell Dolph Sr.'s Obituary
DOLPH, JACK C., SR., 87, OF Dallas died February 3, 2007 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Jack was born August 21, 1919 in Ft. Worth, Texas, to George and Constance Dolph. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he attended the University of Texas and graduated with a Bachelors in Journalism in 1941. He served in the Navy and spent WWII in the South Pacific, which he always loved to talk about. After the war, he was a reporter with the Dallas Times Herald. He left journalism to work for his father in the construction business, later starting Dolph Roofing Company. He loved playing duplicate bridge, was a Life Master, and continued to play until just a few months ago. He was a long time member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Jack was also a die-hard UT Longhorn fan, always wearing his orange ties and UT caps. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Dolph; first wife, Jeanette David Dolph; and son, David George Dolph. He is survived by his second wife, Joan Barlow Dolph; children, Jan Dolph, Sara Dolph & husband Charles Wilson, Jack C. Dolph, Jr. & wife Shirley, Vickie & husband Richard Fatheree, Becky & husband Steve Rivers; brother, George Dolph & wife Nancy; sister, Connie Strow; and thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A special thanks to the VITAS hospice caregivers. The memorial service will be held in Highland Park United Methodist Church’s Cox Chapel at 10 AM on February 12, 2007. Interment will be at a later date at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the 2×2 Class at HPUMC, American Cancer Society, VITAS hospice or the charity of your choice.
