James Matthew "Buddy" Benton's Obituary
James “Buddy” Matthew Benton was born on August 18, 1929, in Western Grove, Arkansas, and passed away September 10, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nona and Neal Benton and his brother, Bill Benton. Buddy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geneva Benton, daughters: Nona Reid (Chuck), Miki Mankin (David), Julie Zmolik (Randy); step son Bruce Martin (Kathy); grand-daughters: Caroline Tapp, Allyson Mankin, Maggie Mankin and Riley Zmolik, as well as nephew Jim Benton (Jenny), niece Becky Howeth (Bob) and many lifelong friends. Jim attended high school in Harrison, Arkansas and was a proud member of the Golden Goblins – he remained friends with all his high school buddies until the time of his death. He served in the US Navy in Bremerton, Washington. He was a proud graduate of the University of Arkansas and was a true Razorback his entire life. His career at John Sexton and Company moved his family to the Dallas area in 1964 where he and his family settled into a lifelong residency in Richardson, Texas and he and Gene remained active in their community. He was extremely proud of his girls and his family.The family will be having a private graveside service followed by a celebration of life at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Red Cross to assist in the recovery of Hurricane Harvey victims.
