James Sidney Compton's Obituary
James Sidney Compton was born on July 14 1955 in Ft Hood Texas to Johnny and Melvin L. Compton. He grew up in a military family with 3 siblings Johnnie Marie, Melvin L. and Mattie Ruth where they settled in Belton Texas where Sidney spent his formative years.
He graduated from Belton High School graduating in 1973. He followed his older brother Melvin to University of North Texas in Denton Texas.
There he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. where he was an active member. He graduated from North Texas in May, 1978 with a B.A. in Sociology/Psychology. He wanted to work with youth who needed guidance.
He started his career with the county in juvenile probation. He switched to business going to work for Olmsted-Kirk Paper Co. He worked in every department; inside sales, outside sales, fine paper, industrial paper ending as a Paper Center Manager Downtown Dallas location. He retired after 35 plus years with them.
Sidney was accepted Christ and was baptized into His Church in 1979 by Bro. Willie Tucker at 4th Ave Church of Christ. His love for God and HIS WORD consistently grew. He was an active member of the Lord's church serving in several areas; education, youth, finance, worship services and evangelism. He loved hearing, reading and most of all sharing the Lord's word.
Sidney met met his future wife at the University of North Texas on April 1, 1976. Two beautiful children became a part of this union. Their son, Clifton Alexander Compton (Samantha) have his beautiful granddaughters (Neriah Ali, Braelyn Kaia, Maya Riley) that were his joy. His daughter, Laurin Sidney Compton is a criminal defense attorney, Dallas Tx. He had two nieces that were more like daughters as they grew up with his children; Fallon LaSaundra Jones and Erin Cherelle Jones-Burton.
His children were his heart. He loved them dearly and was involved in every part of their lives. He was involved in planning their birthday celebrations, play dates with their friends and family vacations. He never missed his son's ball practices or games. He attended his daughter's music and dance recitals, their holiday plays, end of year awards ceremonies. His chest was stuck out with every graduation. He loved holiday celebrations with as many family members as we could get in the house as possible. Spring break road trips were a particular favorite as he drove the family van.
His health declined over the last few years because of a series of strokes. He fought a good fight. He finished his race. He knew his family would be fine He taught us well as he provided a wonderful example of a Christian son, friend, brother, husband and father.
Sidney leaves behind to celebrate his life and legacy; His sisters Johnnie Joplin (Al), Mattie Rocquemore, his brother Melvin (Beth), sister-in-law(Patty). There are a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces whom he loved dearly.
