James Albert Dorsey's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of James Albert Dorsey announces his passing on Thursday, June 14, 2018,at the age of 79, after a long battle with Parkinson’s. A native of Dallas, Jim graduated from the University of North Texas and served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1957-1964. For more than 30 years, he worked as a hardware consultant and co-owner at Hidell Hardware in Dallas and was a member of University Park United Methodist Church. Known to those who loved him as “Gamp,” he will be remembered by Betty Jo, his wife of 58 years, and his daughters Pam (David) Hadden, Paula (Mark) Mason and Julie {Elliott) Etheredge. Gamp will also be fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren, Taylor, Dorsey, Travis, Logan, Greyson, Zach, Morgan, Alley, Pam; by his brother, Drew Dorsey; his brother-in-law David Holland and sisters-in-law Carol Dorsey, Joyce Dorsey and June Holland. Jim was predeceased by his mother, Frances Dorsey and his brother Ralph Dorsey. The family request guest observe visiting hours between 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Restland Funeral Home. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at University Park United Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Blvd., with Rev. Keith Boone officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either of the following: Dallas Area Parkinson’s Association (www.daps.us) or University Park UMC (www.upumc.org). Finally, the family would like to thank caretakers from Sage Oak Assisted Living and Amity Hospice for their gentle kindness and help in easing the pain of Jim’s passing.
