ERWIN, JAMES QUINN Colonel James Quinn Erwin, age 90, passed away April 14, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was born on June 9, 1922 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from North Dallas High School class of 1939 and Texas A & M class of 1943. Jim served 33 years in the U. S. Army Reserves retiring as Colonel. He served active duty in World War II in the African and European theaters with the 85th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion. While in the Army and in the Civil Affairs Branch, he received the MOS of 0009 (Arts, Monuments, Archive Officer) by the Adjutant General who was the only one who could assign it at the time. Jim was the Curator at the U.S. Army Fort Sill Museum for many years. In 1947 he opened an antique shop in Dallas specializing in 18th Century American Antiques, later repairing, restoring and manufacturing reproduction antique furniture and historical cannons. Summers were spent in Beverly, MA and around New England for buying antiques for the shops on Lemmon Avenue and Sale Street for over 25 years. He taught classes on antiques at S.M.U. School of Continuing Education for over 30 years and at T.C.U. for 5 years. Jim was an appraiser of antiques since 1947. Since 1976, he has enjoyed raising Longhorns at his ranch near Trenton, TX and spending weekends at his Lakehouse on Cedar Creek Lake. He also enjoyed collecting guns, books and woodworking. Jim loved God with his whole heart for sending Jesus to shed his blood for the remission of his sins. He understood that after repenting toward God and receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Master that he would be born-again by the Holy Spirit and be made a Child of God. Jim always looked forward to Garnette’s reading to him 4 chapters from the Bible before breakfast every day. This year would be the 25th year of reading through the Bible. He was a member of Scofield Memorial Church and regularly attended Nobility Baptist Church near Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Milton Erwin Sr. and Annie Lou Quinn Erwin; his brothers, Hugh Milton Erwin, Jr. and Gordon Erwin.
