James Carroll Jackson's Obituary
James Carroll Jackson passed away unexpectedly at the age of 64 on Monday night August 19, 2024 at his home in Garland, Texas. He was born on August 9, 1960, to Cecil & Eva Jackson. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1978. He always loved building and working with wood. After high school he went into the Home Building industry, working with home builders in the Dallas area building beautiful homes large and small. He was an expert in his field.
James was a devoted father and Papaw. He loved his family more than anything in the world. He had a servant’s heart and always loved cooking and caring for everyone around him, especially his family. His most precious memories were having this family over for Saturday night dinner, during which he prepared food for no fewer than 30, regardless of who attended. There were ALWAYS leftovers that he would forcibly give out to loved ones walking out the door to feed them for the week. Whether it be for a birthday, holiday, special occasion or just because we didn’t do it last week, Saturday nights will never be the same. One of the staples of every gathering was his music. He loved many genres and styles and had a song for every occasion. The most used tool in his possession (of which there were THOUSANDS), was his portable speaker. His favorite instrument was the guitar, which he played and shared his love for with his children and grandchildren.
James was never in his element more than when he was outdoors. He enjoyed taking his family camping, hiking and fishing at every opportunity. When he wasn’t fishing, he was teaching a family member how to cast a line and reel in a catch. He spent most of his free time outside building or tinkering with anything he could find. There was nothing James couldn’t fix. It didn’t matter whether he’d known you for five minutes or his whole life, if there was something you needed, he would fill that need without request or acknowledgement. The word stranger wasn’t in his vocabulary because his heart was big enough for everyone.
James is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Ray Jackson and sister Nancy Boyd. He is survived by his mother Eva Jackson, his best friend and love of his life, Joanna Key. His son Treavor Jackson with wife Amanda, daughter Karlei Austin, daughter Emily Wdowik with partners Misty and Leonard, son Daniel Jackson with wife Aleesa, son Donavan Ray Jackson with partners Becca and Katie, son Logan Key with partner Jasmine. His estranged wife, Lisa Jackson and his grandchildren: James, Jonathan, Abi, Iris, Greyson, Alex, Samantha, Xayne, Konnor, Kira, Carter, Clark and Noelle.
