James "Jim" Whitten's Obituary
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Born August 20, 1937, in Bethel Springs, Tennessee. Jim was preceded in death by his Wife of 67 years, Virginia Fox Whitten. Survived by Daughter, Teresa Whitten Folz and Husband, Gil; Son, Jim Whitten; Son, Chris Whitten; Granddaughters, Brittany Whitten and Husband, Kris Wald; Courtney Whitten and Valerie Winsor; and Great-Grandchildren, Addyson and Burk Wald. His extended Whitten and Fox Family in Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, Colorado and Oklahoma were much loved.
Following active service in the U.S. Marine Corps and Graduation from The University of Tennessee, Jim, Virginia and daughter, Teresa, came to Texas where he earned his M.S. Degree at SMU. He worked at Collins Radio-Richardson, then E-Systems Garland (now Raytheon) where he retired in 1994 after 32 years of service. Jim’s greatest joys came from his Family and travel with his Beloved Wife, Virginia, who circled the globe with him over their many years together. Their favorite travel destination was Maui, Hawaii. They also enjoyed traveling internationally to such destinations as British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Bali, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, the U.K., Ireland, Western Europe and various Caribbean Islands.
A Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Restland Funeral Home. His Funeral Service will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Court of Holy Family, Restland Cemetery.
