Obituary
James Wilton McGuire was born on May 10, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Ray and Katherine (Heaslip) McGuire and passed into the presence of the Lord on January 9, 2020. Jim spent many years battling a rare liver/lung disease and then this past year was diagnosed with liver cancer. He was a brave fighter.
Jim served with the United States Air Force, training at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois and Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He attended The University of South Alabama, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Jim's professional career was spent at Blair Television before retiring, after almost thirty years, as Vice President/Office Manager in the Dallas office.
His great joy in life was his family. Spending any time with them was so special. Other favorites were golf, football, the beach, people and most recently wood carving and painting. The artist inside of him was obvious in his work.
Some of his best days were spent serving others at the BEE House in Dallas, Samaritan inn, Assistance Center of Collin County and God's Food Pantry. He joined the staff at Chase Oaks Church in Plano, Texas as a volunteer liaison to form a working relationship between the church and the city of Plano, Love Where You Live was a result of that partnership.
Jim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Claudia Obar McGuire and two daughters, Ashley and husband Adam Khastehdel of McKinney and Kristin and husband Phillip Roberts of Piano; five grandchildren, Adley, Edym, Maysen and Laryn Khastehdel and Edison Roberts; brother Bill McGuire and wife Pattie of Gallatin, Tennessee, and many loved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ray, mother Kay and brother Bob.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 17 at 2:00 pm at Chase Oaks Church-Sloan Creek campus officiated by Pastor Jack Warren.
