James Nations' Obituary
James (Jimmy) David Nations, 63, passed away on August 31, 2021. A loving son, caring brother, and favorite uncle, he will be missed greatly by all whose lives he blessed and enriched.
James was born in Dallas, Texas, to James and Jeanene (Thompson) Nations on March 25, 1958. He graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1976, the University of North Texas in 1983, and from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1990.
James was a living example of a selfless, caring soul. For years, he sacrificially provided care and companionship for his grandmother, father, and mother. They were all proud of his accomplishments but even more filled with joy by the love he showed those he cared for. To his sisters, “Jimmy” was the best brother. He loved them, was always willing to help when needed, and inspired them toward greater kindness and giving. James’ relationship with his nieces and nephews was full of generosity and commitment of time. No matter how busy his schedule was, he made time for all special occasions. He graciously attended games and performances, celebrated birthdays, and cheered at graduations. With this and countless more actions of humility, James’ love for his family was clearly evident. His kind nature and endearing humor at family gatherings will be greatly missed.
James worked as an attorney since 1990. He retired from Jones Day Dallas in 2020 after 19 years of working diligently with co-workers he respected and appreciated. He spent countless hours reviewing his work with great attention to detail while encouraging and supporting those who worked with him. He was thankful for their friendship and help over the years, especially from his dedicated secretary, Kay.
James was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are sisters Cathryn Dailey and husband Steve, Debra Petrie and husband Mark, and Tricia Forshee and husband Kurt; and nieces and nephews Kristen, Lauren, Matt, Katelyn, Cameron, Anna, Meg, and Sam and an extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of James’ life will be held at the home of Cathy Dailey from 1 pm – 3 pm on Sunday, September 5th at 107 Shepherds Glen Rd., Heath, TX 75032.
