Janice W. DeLay's Obituary
Janice W. DeLay passed away at Richardson Methodist Hospital on June 5, 2017. Jan was born on November 15, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ray C. and Dorothy West. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and earned her college degree from Southern Methodist University. In 1960 she married her husband of fifty-six years, John K. DeLay Jr., at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Houston. Jan was an active and outgoing person, cultivating friendships wherever she went. She was a member of various organizations such as the Dallas Lawyers Wives Club and the Northwood Hills Womens Club. For many years she served as the election judge for her precinct in Northwood Hills. She was active in PTA and other school organizations. In particular she was quite involved with the Richardson Orchestra Club, holding various positions and beings its president. Jan was once an avid duplicate bridge player, frequenting the area bridge clubs in her quest for master points. later she and her husband became ardent estate sale attendees over the Metroplex, with particular interest in antiques, china and ceramics. unfortunately, Jan’s health problems brought a cessation of that activity. In 2007, Jan suffered a broken hip which left her semi-ambulatory for the rest of her life, but she remained amazingly in good spirits, particularly in the social activities at rehab facilities where she lived. She was preceded in death by her parents; Jan is survived by her husband and two sons, Mark; Todd and wife, Lori. She is also survived by her three beloved granddaughters; Casey, Kayla, and Hannah. Jan was a lover of pets, having two pedigreed cats: a Russian Blue and a Bombay for many years. She is survived by her three dogs: Ellie, a Bichon-Frise; Abby, a Yorkshire Terrier; and Adele, a Miniature Schnauzer. Also, her rose-breasted cockatoo, which she has had for over twenty years, survives her. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 1:30 PM in Restland Wildwood Chapel with memorial service to follow at 2:30 PM.
