Jean Patrick Helm's Obituary
HELM, JEAN PATRICK born February 8, 1919, in Tahlequah, OK has passed away on September 21, 2013 at the Tyler, Texas East Texas Medical Center. She was 94 years, 7 months and 13 days old and up until her death she always had a clear sharp mind. This past Labor Day she had a ruptured appendix (rare for her age) resulting in emergency appendix surgery at the East Texas Medical Center in Athens, Texas. Complications followed the surgery that was followed by a series of heart attacks and failure of her kidneys. This past Friday she sounded cheerful, but took a turn for the worse Saturday afternoon and went into a comma and passed peacefully shortly thereafter. She lived a long happy life filled with the joys of her 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was the last of 9 sisters and two brothers that preceded her in death. She will be entombment at Restland Chapel Garden Mausoleum. Jean was born in Tahlequah, OK, but moved to Muskogee, Ok upon marrying Fred Lee Helm, her beloved husband of 45 years. She and Fred moved to Dallas, Texas shortly before WW-II. She spent many years in the women’s clothing industry working for Margo’s LaMode in sales and management until her retirement in 1985. Both Jean and Fred were active members of Emanuel, Tremont, Lakeside and Lockwood Baptist Churches. She was also very proud of her Cherokee heritage and was a member of the Cherokee Nation West Tribe. She enjoyed being involved with her children and grand-children’s lives and was always willing to help out anyone in need of assistance. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her daughter Patricia, her son Harold her parents Ted and Florence Patrick, her brothers Jimmy and John, her sisters Rena, Margaret, Zina, Leonora, Virginia, Carrie, Evangeline and Eva, and two grand-children Ginger Helm and Tracy Helm. Jean is survived by her loving family, including son Terry Helm and his wife Norma Helm of St. Louis, Missouri. Grandchildren: Tina Denise Monk Nitcholas and her husband Tommy Nitcholas of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Tracy Jo Jones and her husband Harvey Jones of Canton, Texas, Theresa Ann Monk Osburn and her husband David Osburn of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Michael Monk of Dallas, Texas, Harold Lee Helm, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Heather Brooke Helm and her husband Michael Pivor, Allen Alexander Helm of St. Louis, Missouri and Gavriel Daniel Helm of St. Louis, Missouri, Great-Grandchildren: Christopher Brian Monk, Tersa West-Buckmeyer of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Meagan Jean Monk, Shawn Jones, Erica Jones, Jermey Cobb and his wife Leann Cobb, Jennifer Collum and her husband Chad Collum, Travis Nathan Thomas, Vanessa Osburn, and Tiffany Monk Thomas and Great-Great-Grandchildren: Kelsey Baker, Haley Baker, Destinee Denise Buckmeyer, Chase Andrew Pivor, AmyLee Berry and Christopher Berry. Jean’s cheerful spirit, outgoing personality and strength will be missed by her family and the many friends who meant so much to her. She will remain in our hearts forever. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home and Crematory located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. Funeral services at noon, Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Restland Abbey Chapel with entombment immediately following at Restland Memorial Park Chapel Garden Mausoleum – Restland Funeral Home and Crematory – located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
