Jerry Ray Stringer's Obituary
Born on October 24, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, to Henry H. and Eleanor Stringer, Jerry’s life was marked by service, intellect, and integrity. He earned both his bachelor’s (1964) and master’s (1966) degrees from East Texas State University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in the United States Air Force.
Jerry’s military journey was one of dedication and leadership. Rising through the ranks to become a colonel, he served as Chief of Staff for Research & Development at the Pentagon from 1970 to 1973, then contributed to the Office of Polar Programs in Washington from 1973 to 1977. His commitment to clear communication and public service led him to the Public Affairs Office in D.C. (1977–1978), and later to his role as Executive Editor from 1989 to 1996. His retirement in 1996 marked the end of a remarkable career, but not the end of his service to others.
Outside of uniform, Jerry gave generously of his time and heart. From 1986 to 1995, he served as Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in San Antonio, mentoring young men with the same discipline and compassion that defined his military career. He was a proud member of the Memorial Air Force Association and Sigma Delta Chi, reflecting his lifelong commitment to community and excellence.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Chongrak Stringer, and their son, Gary Stringer, who carry forward his legacy of honor, humility, and love.
A visitation has been scheduled for September 16th, 2025, from 10AM-3PM, at Restland Funeral Home with a graveside committal service immediately following at 3PM in Restland Memorial Park - Section G.
His life was a testament to duty, his memory a beacon of strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
