Jerry Manley Waite's Obituary
Jerry Manley Waite peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 5, 2017. He was born on February 13, 1922 in Dewey, OK, son of Neal M. and Doretta H. Waite. He married the love of his life, Katharine Rupard of Sedalia, Missouri on September 13, 1942 and was married for sixty-nine wonderful years.Jerry attended Central Missouri State College and the University of Iowa graduating with a B.S. in Physics & Chemistry and M.S. in Physics. He moved to Dallas in 1944 and worked as a research physicist at Mobil Petroleum Co. until his 1984 retirement.Jerry was an accomplished cellist, playing with both the Richardson and Mesquite Symphony Orchestras. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church, Dallas orchestra and played there for 50 years. He enjoyed listening to classical and Christian music and studying the Bible. In addition, Jerry served the Lord at FBC, Dallas, for 70 years in many other capacities: Chapel Choir sponsor and photographer on mission trips around the world for 30 years, Bible teacher, deacon, Conversational English teacher, wedding photographer, photographer for many activities, programs, and the youths’ Who’s Who book, and maintenance crew volunteer to name a few of his various areas of ministry. Jerry was also treasurer of a local chapter of The Gideons International for many years.Jerry is preceded in death by his wonderful wife Kathy, beloved daughter Susan, mother, father, brother Dale, sister-in-law June and half-sister Arlene. He is survived by daughter Carol Waite Coleman, husband William C. of Dallas; son David Waite, wife Kelsa of Dallas; son-in-law Alson Woodward of Lucas, TX; six grandchildren Shawn Woodward, wife Cyndi; Steven Woodward, wife April; Scott Woodward, wife Jenni; Abby Waite Wood, husband Jon; Benjamin Waite, wife Mandy; Andrew Waite, wife Kathryn; 12 great-grandchildren Kenzie & Pippa Woodward, Grace, Caleb, Jonathan, Amarissa & Seth Woodward, Clara, Caroline & Cate Woodward, Kinley Waite & Adley Wood; 2 nieces, Anne Foster, Lynn Sutton and 2 nephews, Bobby Waite, Stanley Waite, half-sisters Betty Aprile, Gloria Chaves and Corrine Koepf.Jerry leaves a treasured legacy to his family of a life lived for the Lord. He was an honored, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Our family honors him for his quiet, steady love, generosity, sense of humor, wisdom, and love of the Lord. We are joyful that he is now with the Lord, Kathy, Susan and other beloved family and friends who have preceded him to heaven.
