Jhon Hòa Lâm's Obituary
Jhon Hòa Lâm passed away the morning of February 14, 2025 in his sleep. He was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife, Kim Lâm Phan, in Texas and his four daughters, Denise Tran (husband Kevin), MyLin Lâm, Kathy Kim (husband Vuthy), and Lena Truong (husband Phong). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kelly (husband Joshua), Jason (wife LaTosha), Ryan (wife Aixamar), Tyce, Sydney, Allie, Tinley, Everly, and Peyton. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Lyanna, Lorraine, and Leon.
He was born in south Vietnam in 1941. He was very scholarly and eventually taught Mandarin in Tam Kỳ, as Chinese is his heritage. He married Kim Phan in 1969. Jhon and Kim had three children while in Vietnam. They were ‘boat people’ who traveled by boat to Hong Kong before resettlement in Southern California. During their travel to Hong Kong, bad weather struck and they lost their son, Lâm Thú Mình (age 3), and youngest daughter, Lâm Lê Châu (age 4 months). After their tragic loss, they resettled in Los Angeles, and had three additional daughters. After 17 years in Southern California surrounded by their families and working in the sewing contracting business, Jhon and Kim decided to make a cross country move to provide more for their family. They had a short stint in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before resettling in Ardmore, Oklahoma. After all their kids settled in various careers and locations across the country, they settled in Plano, Texas until his passing.
His passions were reading the daily Mandarin newspapers, watching the NBA and tennis, and had a love of food. He enjoyed speaking Mandarin to anyone that could speak the language and his eyes lit up with each grandchild’s visit. “He leaves behind a legacy of commitment and endurance for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.”
