Joe Hai Nguyen's Obituary
Joe Hai Nguyen, age 76, passed on August 24, 2025 due to heart complications.
Joe Hai was born on April 18, 1949, in Hanoi, Vietnam, to Mr & Mrs Kiêng & Hồng Nguyễn, as the eldest son of eleven children.
After the 1954 Geneva Accord, his whole family moved to Saigon, where he obtained his Law degree and became a lawyer. He served in the Armed Force as a court prosecutor of the Republic of Vietnam, Nha Quan Phap in Saigon before 1975.
In 1973 he married his wife, Cathy Hồng Nhung.
After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, he arrived in the U.S with his wife, parents & siblings to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, a refugee processing center where his first daughter, Catherine was born. Shortly afterwards, he moved his family to Dallas, Texas, where his second daughter, Monique was born.
Within a short time, Joe Hai started to work for Otis Engineering Company while supporting his wife’s business in clothing garment production that produced children’s clothing sold at high-end department stores.
Joe Hai was known for his "Having a big heart" in helping others, generosity, kindness, gregarious, friendly, and talkative nature. He was always happy to make others he cares about happy, especially his daughters. He was an avid Cowboys fan, loved to play his luck at the casinos, and having coffee with his friends. He also was a proud home-cook when it came to making certain Vietnamese dishes and grilling steaks. He also was a happy dog owner for his beloved Yorkie Lola, who he loved to carry around the house.
Joe Hai was preceded in death by his wife (Cathy Hồng Nhung), his parents (Kiêng & Hồng), his younger sister (Bích Vương), his youngest brother (Thắng), and brother-in-law (Sỹ), and recently 7/12/25 younger sister (Kim Vấn). He is survived by his daughters (Catherine, Monique, and Yorkie Lola), his younger siblings (Hùng, Vân Anh, Thu Hương, Sơn, Long, Phương, Dũng), his eleven nieces and nephews (Tina, Bob, Michelle, Linh, Loc, Hanh, Paul, Long Junior, Davis, Luan, and Tiffany), and his in-laws (Monika, Tuyết, Lệ, Hùng, and Christi).
Joe Hai will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Today, with his greatest joy as he finally reunites with the love of his life and eternal wife, Cathy Hồng Nhung.
The visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. The Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ Vietnamese Parish, 2121 N Denton Dr, Carrollton, TX 75006 followed by interment at Restland Cemetery.
