John Keith DeLay Jr's Obituary
John K. DeLay, Jr. passed away at Prestonwood Rehabilitation in Plano on September 3, 2020 at the age of 91. John was born on July 8, 1929 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the son of J.K. and Gertrude DeLay. He graduated from Lewisville High School, earned his political science degree from North Texas State College, then attended the University of Michigan earning his law degree. Following graduation he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and earned both the rank of Commander and Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer. Following the war, John obtained his Texas State Bar license and practiced law for over 35 years at the Law Firm of Storey Armstrong Steger & Martin. His legal specialization was in corporate litigation serving such clients as Dresser Industries and Southwestern Bell. In 1960 he married his wife of fifty-six years, Janice West, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Houston. Following John’s retirement in the early 90’s, he and his wife became ardent estate sale attendees around the Metroplex, with particular interest in antiques and collectibles. John especially enjoyed reading, watching classic movies, attending art auctions, and spending quality time with his dogs.
For those who knew John, he had an outstanding memory and could always tell a good story.
John was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his two sons, Mark; Todd and wife, Lori. He is also survived by his three beloved granddaughters, Casey, Kayla, and Hannah. John was a lover of his dogs and is survived by Abby, his Yorkshire Terrier.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 1:30 PM in Restland Wildwood Chapel with memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
