Joseph Bailey Stedman's Obituary
STEDMAN, JOSEPH BAILEY, Ph.D.Joe Stedman passed away on September 8, 2018 at the age of 78 years after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Joe Stedman was born in Dallas on July 20, 1940. At seventeen, he graduated Highland Park High School to join to the Navy. After completing his service as a petty officer aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea, Joe attended Arlington State College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics. Joe spent much his professional career in working banking, first for First National Bank of Texas, Texas Commerce Bank and then co-founding and opening Lone Star National Bank in 1984 as the first cashless bank in the area. He was also an active public servant that included working for and with Chairman of the Government Committee and First Vice President of the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Urban Rehabilitation Standards board for the City of Dallas, Chairman of the Judges Committee for a twelve-state region of the Boy’s Clubs of America, evening instructor of Management and Finance for Eastfield College, and the first non-lawyer elected Vice-Chairman of the 6th District State Bar Grievance Committee and Member of the Executive Committee of the Greater Dallas Crime Commission. During his professional career, he continued his passion for learning and received a master’s degree in International Management from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Ph.D. in Information Sciences from the University of North Texas. He also had a passion for ranching which he shared with his family and the neighboring ranchers that had pity on this “Urban Cowboy”. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Horis Stedman.
