June Teske Sharp's Obituary
Alice June Teske Sharp, age 96, of Rowlett, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
"Junie" will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was a member of Grand View Baptist Church in Mesquite, formerly East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas.
June Sharp was born on June 27, 1923, to Walter Bernard Teske and Clara Belle (Fairbanks) Teske in Onaga, Kansas. She attended Emporia State Teachers College and returned home to teach school in rural Onaga. She met the love of her life, William Delbert Sharp, at a USO dance on post at Ft. Riley, Kansas. June and Bill were married January 1, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, at Forney Road Baptist Church.
June was a devoted mother and homemaker. She worked at Bryan Adams High School in Dallas from 1965 until her retirement in 1986. Upon retirement, she began a second career with SIMC in Dallas and became an active member of several organizations and her church. Following the death of her husband Bill, she enjoyed volunteering at her church greeting members and guests and following the activities of her children and grandchildren. June was happiest when surrounded by her family and extended family. Her big, amazing weekend breakfasts, always with lots of children, laughter and delicious biscuits and gravy, will be among the sweetest memories held by five generations of family that adored her.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, William Delbert Sharp; sisters, Wilma Teske Roberts, and Freda Teske Grutzmacher; son-in-law, Michael S. Zimmer and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Leigh Arnold Beal.
She is survived by her son, William Delbert (Bill) Sharp, Jr. and wife, Carroll of Yoakum, Texas, daughters, Cheryl Margene Sharp Zimmer of Elm Grove, Wisconsin and Yoakum, Texas and MaryAnn Sharp Hodge and husband, Jeff of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Jon Sharp and wife Ruth Ellen of East Bernard, Texas, James Sharp and wife Debi of Houston, Texas, Shannon Sharp Gill and husband Michael of Yoakum, Texas, Matthew Zimmer of Rowlett, Texas, Margo Hodge Bristow and husband Ben of Rowlett, Texas and Samuel Hodge and wife Devon of Dallas, Texas, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Jon Sharp, James Sharp, Matthew Zimmer and Samuel Hodge.
The family of June Sharp will receive visitors on Friday, February 21, 2020, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service and burial will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland.
