Katherine Brockett's Obituary
BROCKETT, KATHERINE R. Katherine Roberts Brockett, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2007 in her home at Silverado Senior Living in Plano, Texas, with her daughter by her side. Katherine was born in Durant, Oklahoma on May 17, 1923. She was raised with one sister and three brothers by her loving parents, Oscar and Fannie Roberts. After high school graduation she served her country during World War II as a member of the 565th Army Air Forces. After the War she moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for the Dallas Independent School District where she met her future husband, William R. Brockett, of Denton, Texas. Katherine and Bill married in 1948 and made their home in the Dallas area. They raised two children, Jan and Phil, in the metroplex communities of Lancaster, Oak Cliff, and Lake Highlands. Katherine enjoyed her years as a homemaker and church volunteer. She and Bill were active members of various United Methodist Churches in their communities. As her children approached college-age, Katherine began her professional career as a realtor. She worked as an associate for Ebby Halliday for fifteen years until her retirement. In 1976 her granddaughter, Jennifer, was born and Katherine enjoyed her role as grandmother very much. Katherine lived a full and active life. She took special pleasure in traveling to Oregon during summers to spend time with her sister, Katie Parker and her husband Conor, and her many nieces and nephews in the Pacific Northwest. Katherine and Bill traveled the world together and, after his death in 1982, she continued her travels with friends and family. As a long-time resident of Dallas, Katherine was blessed with many friends and neighbors. Relationships with them filled her life with joy. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Brockett. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Wilbanks and her husband, John, of Carrollton; her son, Phil Brockett and his wife, Tricia, of Bend, Oregon; her granddaughter, Jennifer Haworth and her husband, Chad, of Dallas; and, her great grandson, Lane Edward Haworth of Dallas. Katherine’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Restland Wildwood Chapel with Rev. Bill Smith of Highland Park United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive visitors at Restland Funeral Home on Monday March 5, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Katherine’s family wishes to give special thanks on her behalf to the exceptional and wonderful staff at Silverado Senior Living in Plano for allowing Katherine to spend her last days as she lived—very graciously and surrounded by love!
