Kathy called me and shared with me a photo with her mom in order to open a difficult conversation with me, difficult yet loving. Kathy knew my mom had made the cancer journey with my sister and she wanted to know what to say to her mom, who in the picture is sitting bravely by her side, with a broad smile. Kathy admired her mom, and wanted to make sure her mom would be okay. There was no way to know her mother would pass in just a few months, but Kathy described her mom as strong, loving, kind, forgiving, a provider, a planner, smart, a leader and such a support. Words one would also ascribe to Kathy. "How do I get her through this, she asked?" My words seemed so simple but it was what my sister taught me, just tell her what she means to you every day, love her and laugh every chance you get so that is what echos in her heart when your journey is complete. It is my wish that this is what her family has, her laughter ringing in their lives as they move forward, loving those boys, Grayson and Mason, who meant the world to her.
