Kathleen T. Elkins' Obituary
Kathleen Tempel Elkins died at home during the 2014 Thanksgiving weekend at the age of 91. Kathy was born in Dallas, Texas on July 31, 1923 to Oswald G. and Katherine Schiege Tempel. She attended Dallas Public Schools, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the Class of 1940, and then attended the University of Texas at Austin. Kathy married James R. Elkins, in 1946 and moved to Shreveport, LA, where Jim worked for 40 years as a sales rep for John Sexton & Co. After Jim’s retirement, they returned to Dallas in 1992. Kathy was an active member of the 2X2 Class at Highland Park UMC, Dallas Chapter 6 – UDC, Dallas Literary Club, and Classic Literary Group. She adored playing bridge with friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 54 years. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Elkins Allen, and son-in-law, Joe B. Allen III, of Dallas; her grandson, Dr. Mark R. Allen, and his wife, Catherine, of Christchurch, NZ; many cousins and friends. A memorial service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Cox Chapel, Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75205. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 2X2 Class Benevolence Fund at HPUMC or another charity.
