Lavonia Walker Hawkins' Obituary
Lavonia Walker Hawkins was born July 2, 1938, in Troy, Alabama to Shady Andrew Walker, and Bertie Mae Walker. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 2, 2016. Lavonia was a graduate of Auburn University, where she earned her degree in Education. She later attended LSU, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She was a dedicated teacher for well over 25 years. Lavonia met and married her late husband, Charles H Hawkins, in 1961, in Crestview, Florida. They soon moved to New Orleans and started their family. They later settled in Shreveport, Louisiana where they remained, until Charles’ death, in 2005. Lavonia always went to great lengths to put others before herself. She touched the lives of so many, as a teacher, wife, mother, grandparent, sister, and friend. Lavonia was well known for amazing cooking, southern hospitality, and always loved a house full of family and friends. All who knew this beautiful woman were forever blessed to have crossed her path. Lavonia is survived by her daughter Stephanie Hawkins Marrus, son Charles Hawkins Jr., son in law Kevin Marrus, and daughter in law Candy Hawkins. Her two Sisters, Nola Smith, and Evelyn Hayslip and brother Buddy O’Mary. Her Grandchildren, Ella and Lillian Marrus, and Michael and Emily Hawkins. A family and friend gathering will be held at the home of Dr. Ronald Marrus, on August 12, @ 6:00pm. 611 Cumberland Drive, Shreveport, 71106. Services will be held at Osborn Funeral home on August 13, @ 1:00pm, 3631 Southern Ave, Shreveport, 71104. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lavonia’s honor, to St. Jude’s, Paralyzed Veterans, or a charity or your choice. Kevin and Stephanie Marrus, would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the support, and prayers, from family and friends. Mamaw will sadly be missed, but she will always remain in our hearts as “Our Sunshine”.
