Lawrence Lenig's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) E. Lenig 11/5/1918 – 8/21/2015 Larry passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2015. Larry is preceded in death by his wife Anne, the love of his life, to whom he was married for 60 years. He is survived by two sons, Larry, Jr. and his wife, Marcia, and Rick, 6 grandchildren, Chris Lenig, Erin Newman, Lindsey Bowman, Travis Lenig, Kelly Bruni & Scott Lenig and 10 great grandchildren, Grace, Delaney, Olivia, Zoe, Dylan, Kaleb, Ava, Connor, Alyssa and Kaitlyn. Born and raised in Sunbury, PA., Larry graduated from Lockhaven State University as a letterman and then entered the Army during World War II. He went through basic training in Mississippi where he met Anne and fell in love. He was shipped to the European theatre in 1943 as a 2nd Lieutenant and rose through the ranks to Major until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was fond of saying he joined every Officer’s Club in Germany after the war and went to each one every night, but in reality he couldn’t wait to get back stateside where he moved to Texas to court, and soon thereafter, marry Anne. An athletic enthusiast, Larry landed a job as the head coach at Wilmer-Hutchins High School where he coached all sports and led them to the state’s highest baseball honor in their classification in 1950. Larry then entered the insurance business as an adjuster and moved to San Antonio where he, Anne and their boys resided until 1967 when the family moved to Dallas. He worked and rose through the ranks for Floyd West & Company and Crum & Foster before “retiring” to become a long term consultant to Lindsey Newsome and other insurance related businesses. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations in Larry’s name to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm Sunday, August 23, 2015 at The Abbey Chapel. Service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, August 23, 2015 at The Abbey Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
