Livia Gaston Shelton Bumpas October 2, 1924 – January 17, 2011 “The sweeping up the heart and putting love away…” begins for the loved ones of Livia Gaston Shelton Bumpas. Livia passed away January 17, 2011, surrounded by love, after struggling with Alzheimer disease for many years. She leaves three grown daughters: SuAnn Aday; Livia Jane Gabler, husband Tom; Sarah Shelton Hext and a loving sister, Virginia Gaston Lagow and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sean Aday, wife Kiersten-Stewart Aday; Andrea Rudolph, husband Mike; Ashley Baker, husband Will; Nicole Sanchez, husband Ezell; and Wesley Gabler and Jerry Bumpas. Her great-grandchildren who will miss their Granny are Jaime and Paulina Aday; Rebecca Rudolph; Berkley and Fisher Baker; and Zane Sanchez. Livia grew up in Oak Cliff and attended Sunset High School. Before marrying Howell H. Shelton of Highland Park in 1942, she enjoyed a modeling career at Neiman Marcus for Stanley Marcus. Shortly after her marriage, she began volunteer work as a Gray Lady nurse for veterans. Livia and Howell built a home in Carrollton, Texas and she was actively involved with the Carrollton Farmers Branch school district organizing dances and PTA activities. She later became a Vice President of Dallas County State Bank, her second career. Livia married John R. Bumpas in 1968, and they were married 42 years living in Dallas, Alpine, and Mineral Wells. She continued her passion for service work throughout her life-time as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Alpine as well as Mineral Wells. Livia was a life-long devout member of the Episcopal Church. She lovingly served on the altar guild throughout her life and as secretary and treasurer of the church board of directors. Her family and friends will miss Livia’s grace, charm, phosphorescent spirit, her love of people and her zest for life. A heartfelt sincere thank-you to all care givers at Gruene Senior Living Center of New Braunfels and hospice workers for the gentle loving care of Livia. The family requests memorials sent to Alzheimer’s research in her memory, a charity of your choice, or St. Lukes Episcopal Church: P.O. Box 759; Mineral Wells, TX 76067. The funeral will be at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery. The visitation and viewing will be at 9:00 A.M, The Service at 10:00 A.M. and the internment will be at Restland.
