Lois Jane Martin's Obituary
Died peacefully September 22, 2008 after a brief illness. Born August 20, 1922 in DeQuincy, Louisiana, she was the daughter of W.A. and Grace Jarrell. She married Ralph Coker Martin, November 18, 1943. They remained devoted to each other for over 61 years, until his death in 2005. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Lois is survived by her daughter Marilyn Coody (and husband Bill) of Garland; son Dana (and wife Carol) of Macedon, NY; grandson Travis Martin of Wichita, KS; granddaughter Emilia Martin of Davenport, IA; granddaughter Kristen Coody of Dallas; and brother Keith Jarrell (and wife Allegra) of Dallas. She is survived also by seven nephews plus numerous grandnieces and nephews. Lois was deeply loved by family and friends. Lois was often described as a true lady. She was a wonderful role model and teacherat home, in the public schools, and in her church. Lois taught for 24 years in Mesquite ISD, retiring as head of the Home Economics department at Mesquite HS. She was a faithful servant at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church for 48 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir President, WMU President, and in many other capacities. She was a wonderful role model for her students and peers. In spite of the physical limitations of her last years, she continued writing many personal notes, always finding just the right encouraging words. Calling hours will be at Restland Funeral Home, 2-4pm, Sunday, September 14. A burial service will be held for family members Monday morning, with a Memorial Service to be held at 2:30pm at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. The Reverend Don Brown will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mission East Dallas, 2914 Oates Drive, Dallas, a ministry dear to Lois.
