Lois Helen Routt's Obituary
Helen B. Routt went to be with her Heavenly Father March 24, 2010 at the age of 93, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born to Esther and C.P. Balch May 2, 1916 in Nelson, Oklahoma, Helen had a wonderful childhood, growing up on a farm in nearby Hugo. Helen attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). After graduating in 1937, she moved to Dallas and began attending the Sanders Class at East Dallas Christian Church, where she met and married the love of her life James O’Neal Routt, Jr. Helen worked for the War Production Board before beginning her 33-year career in education. Following the turbulent years of WWII, they began their family. Once her youngest child was enrolled in kindergarten, Helen returned to teaching, and concurrently earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from TWU. She became the librarian of the newly opened Robert T. Hill Jr. High School in Dallas, where she touched many lives until her retirement in 1986. Helen gave her time to her husband, three children and nine grandchildren, whose lives she shaped with her abundance of wisdom, knowledge and advice. Her generosity and kind heart leave a legacy to all who knew her. She loved to travel, and was involved in a multitude of organizations. Helen will always be remembered as a loyal friend who filled her life with service to others through her numerous activities, social clubs, and her beloved church. Her husband and three sisters preceded Helen in death. She is survived by her sister Fay White of Naples, FL and her three children and their spouses, Janice Normile and husband Billy Jack of Denton, James Routt and wife Lois of Austin, and Cindy Losak and husband Bill of Lancaster. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jennifer and Blake Normile of Denton, Scott Normile of Dallas, Stephanie Kotara, Deborah and Heather Routt of Austin, Brian Losak of Houston, Lauren Losak of Dallas, Rachel Losak of Lancaster, great grandson Luke Normile of Dallas, sister-in-law Barbara Laska of Dallas, and numerous nieces and nephews. The visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5-7 pm at Restland, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243, and the funeral will be Sunday at 3 pm in the Wildwood Chapel also at Restland. Memorials may be made to East Dallas Christian Church.
