Lynne Van Pelt's Obituary
VAN PELT, LYNNE Went to her reward on April 16, 2008 after a long illness. She was born on April 17, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Gilbert and Ruth E. Syversen. She enjoyed a large extended family in Chicago, during her childhood. After Graduating High School she attended North Park College of Music in Chicago, followed by the University of Illinois, and then moved to Dallas Texas. She received private voice lessons from Celeste Morton Sprintz, and Paul Velluci, also studying at SMU’s School of Opera. Mrs. Van Pelt was active in her children’s PTA at Walnut Hill and participated in many local music and opera clubs, who enjoyed her vocal talents. She was a soloist at First Baptist Church and sang with the Dallas Symphony chorus, also teaching voice lessons privately, and at Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church. She was a precinct chairman for the Republican Party for many years. She is joining her husband of 57 years who passed away 6 weeks ago, and is survived by daughters, Becky Downs and Leslie Guzman, and grand children Amber, Justin and Shauna Downs. Services will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, April 21, 2008 at Restland Abbey Chapel with visitation from 1:00-2:00PM prior to service.
