Mamie Lee Penix's Obituary
PENIX. MAMIE LEE MAYES beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2012, with her family by her side. Mamie was born on August 23, 1926 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to parents Verner B. and Beetta P. Mayes, and was the youngest of 7 children. She graduated in 1944 from Forest High School in Dallas. Mamie married the love of her life, William H. (Bill) Penix, Jr., on May 17, 1945 and they were inseparable throughout their glorious marriage of 67 years. She was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church for over 40 years. Mamie worked for 50 years for the Hunt family of Dallas, starting as a payroll secretary for Hunt Oil Company. At the end of her career, she managed the personal affairs of Ruth Hunt, until Mrs. Hunt’s passing. She loved the Hunt family as much as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ogle, Clifford and Roger Mayes; sisters Dolvis Walker and Doris Ramsey. She is survived by her husband Bill, son Ron and wife Cherie Taylor, son Jim and wife Dee Oswalt, grandsons Will and Zach Penix, sister Lucille Sharp and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 17, from 5-7 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18 at 3:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland, with graveside services to follow. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Cancer Society or the Alzheimers Disease Fund.
