Marion H. Armstrong Jr.'s Obituary
Marion H. Armstrong, Jr., 94, of Plano, Texas, passed away on July 24, 2025 after a brief illness.
Marion was born on March 21, 1931 to Marion Sr. and Aileen Armstrong (Lavender) in Abilene, Texas. After graduating from Sunset High School (Oak Cliff, in Dallas) in 1949, he served in the US Army during the post-war reconstruction of Germany. He then went on to study Finance and Accounting at Southern Methodist University on the GI Bill, graduating with an MBA in 1957.
Following a long career in retail at Federated Department Stores (Sanger-Harris in TX, Burdines in FL), Marion worked for the City of Austin; first as an aide to City Council member Ronney Reynolds, later in financial management of the city pension fund. In 2004, Marion retired and moved back to Plano, spending time with family and friends. After a few years in Plano, Marion and his wife, Maggie, moved to The Legacy Willow Bend and found many new friends and a caring and dedicated staff.
All those who knew Marion recognized his drive, intelligence, and integrity. His competitiveness, notable during his state championship days in tennis at Sunset HS and throughout his working career, infused his life as well as his pronounced and gregarious sense of humor. He also loved discussion and debate over a wide range of interests. He made friends easily throughout his life in the different places he lived and worked; those people who knew him would attest to the strength of his character and friendship.
Marion is survived by wife Margaret "Maggie" Armstrong (McDaniel), son Nicholas, daughters Dana and Amy, and multiple grandchildren. Private services will be held at The Legacy Willow Bend, Plano, TX.
