Marion Dyer's Obituary
On February 20, 201 8, at the age of 88, Marion Dyer passed away surrounded by family.Marion was born in Canton, Texas on June 7, 1929. She and her twin sister, Margaret, were the youngest of 8 children born to Clyde and Fannie (Starnes) Peace who preceded her in death.Marion grew up in Canton, Texas where she went to school and was an all-star volleyball player. She met and married her loving husband, Joe Lee Burke who preceded her in death. Together they raised their daughter, Carol (Burke) Harris and opened the Calico Shop in Waco, Texas where she shared her love of sewing and fabric selection for clothing. Eventually, they opened and operated a second store in Corsicana, Texas. Several years after the passing of Joe, Marion remarried businessman Ross T. Dyer, who also preceded her in death. She served as the director of preschool education at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for many years and later was a very active member of the Methodist Church in Waco, Texas.Marion was the definition of a Southern lady. She was unflinching in her opinions, stubborn to a fault, always dressed in her finest attire and she loved the Lord. Marion befriended countless people in the community everywhere she went. Her family especially was a joy to her and she was extremely proud of them.She is survived by her daughter Carol (Burke) Harris; son in law, Raymond G. Harris; her grandchildren Blake Harris and Shelly (Harris) Turner; and her great-grandchildren Sarah and Jack Harris and Channing Turner; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018, at 1 1:00 A.M. at Restland Whispering Waters.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243, (972-238-7111).
