Marsha Kay Drum's Obituary
Marsha Kay Erwin Drum
December 5, 1943 – January 23, 2021
Drum, Marsha Kay peacefully fell into heavenly slumber on Saturday January 23, 2021 due to complications of COVID.
She was born in Dallas, Texas on December 5, 1943 to Albert and Juanita Erwin and was raised in Garland, Texas. She graduated from Garland High School in 1962. She met Tommy R. Drum, and in January of 1966 they were married. Together they raised three really incredible kids. Although being a wife and mother to those three awesome kids took up most of her time, she held a few jobs over the years. She worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. and in the late 80’s, early 90’s, she cleaned homes to bring in some extra cash so she could keep the before mentioned kids in braces, cars, and athletic equipment. Money always seemed to be a little tight in our household, but we never wanted for anything because she always found a way to make it happen.
Although being a wife and mother were her focus, her passion was teaching Sunday School at New Liberty Baptist Church in Garland. Once you were in her classroom, from that moment on you remained one of her kids. What a testament of life knowing you helped mold the minds of children to understand what it was like to be loved by God and to accept him. She kept many cards and letters from parents and students thanking her for guiding them to Christ. We can still see the smile on her face and how she lit up each time she recalled those special moments.
Our mom was a hot mess. She was funny, beautiful, persistent, hard-headed and the ultimate nag. Blind as a bat, but could find a piece of glitter on the floor 10 yards out and insist it get picked up. She loved fast cars, loud music, and dancing. And she made one of the best banana puddings around. If she hugged you, it was the most genuine of gestures, but she made sure to include a little back scratch to seal the deal on how happy she was to see you.
Her beloved Tommy preceded her in death on June 15, 1995. Once he passed, the light inside of her dimmed quite a bit, but she still managed to move on. We are certain they are together again in heaven. Dad is smoking cigarettes and I’m sure already ignoring everything she is saying, just like old times.
She is survived by her son Jeff Coker, daughter and son in law, Shelby and Mickey Morgan, son and daughter in law, Matt and Denice Drum. Brother Dr. Andy L. Erwin and his partner Lori Ponder. Granddaughter Ashley Brown and her husband Tristan, grandson Justin Drum and his wife Rachel, granddaughter Cassidie Coker, granddaughter Savannah Drum, niece Taylor Erwin Snodgrass and husband Beau, nephew Grant Erwin, sister in law Sandy Woodfin and husband Bob, sister in law Jody Wade and husband Jerry. Blessed with 3 great granddaughters, Adeline Brown, Collins Drum, and Ayden Brown. Great nephew Hayes Snodgrass and great niece Sloane Snodgrass. Cousin Cindy Weed and husband Gary. And very special neighbors who became family, Robert and Linda Albritton and Paula Neely.
One of her favorite verses “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Garland Police Association c/o Shelby Morgan 618 W. Vista. Dr., Garland, Tx. 75041
