Martha Lowe McGeehon's Obituary
Martha McGeehon, 84, of Prosper, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2024 with her three children by her side.
Martha was born on September 22,1939 to Homer and Frances Lowe in Palestine, Texas. After graduation from Palestine High School, she went to study Education and Religion and Baylor University. After graduation with a Degree in Education she started her career teaching in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Martha met Bob McGeehon in Muskogee, Oklahoma through mutual friends. They were later Married on June 14,1963 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Here they established their first home and proceeded to engage in church activities and began their desire to build a family. Martha and Bob moved to Texas and went on to have three children Homer Barton McGeehon, Patricia Sue McGeehon and Lori Jeanne McGeehon Cathey.
Martha became a stay -at-home mother after the birth of her children and spent much of her time participating in all their school, extra -curricular and church activities and could always be found in the audience or stands watching and offering encouragement. She taught bible class, sewed costumes, played the organ and piano and made sure their home was open to all children and families sharing her love to all who entered. Martha’s love for the church, Christ and children led her to becoming the Minister of Preschool Education at Calvary Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. Her love for children and the recognitions of the needs of families at the church she created a childcare center to meet this need. This led her to go on to create and manage multiple childcare centers throughout the Dallas Metroplex for many years.
Martha was exceptionally creative and spent hours designing and baking wedding cakes for family and friends which led her to creating her own business, Cake Creations. Martha won many awards at the Texas State Fair for her various wedding cake designs. She enjoyed doing multiple crafts from painting hundreds of T-shirts for children’s camps and floral arranging including the best Texas homecoming mums.
After retirement and the death of her beloved husband she continued her focus on making sure children remained a part of her life. God blessed Martha, better known as Oma with her first Granddaughter Sadie who became the joy of her life along with her second granddaughter Sydney. Together these girls became her primary focus creating lasting memories from the biggest homecoming mums, best birthday cakes, travel experiences and warmest hugs and did her best to be at every event of their lives like she was in the lives of her children.
Martha was proceeded in death by her husband Bob McGeehon, parents Homer and Frances Lowe and son-in-law David Cathey. She is survived by her three children Bart McGeehon, Patsy McGeehon and Lori McGeehon Cathey a sister Cheryl Bruyere and Granddaughters Sadie and Sydney Cathey as well as nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.
Martha will be laying in peace beginning Tuesday, July 23 at 12:00 PM. Her family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 24 at 1:00 PM directly proceeding the Memorial Services beginning at 2:00 PM
