Marvin Eugene Wycoff's Obituary
Marvin Eugene Wycoff, age 92, passed away peacefully in his home in Dallas Texas on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024. He was born in Dallas, Texas to Frank Eugene Wycoff and Daisy Myrtle Cavender on November 25, 1931.
Marvin was a restless teenager and actually ran away from his home is South Dallas, lied about his age, and joined the US Army in 1946 at the age of almost 15. He spent three years in the Army, most of that time with the Army Air Force and had many adventures in exotic places like Roswell New Mexico, Anchorage Alaska and San Francisco, growing up fast. After being discharged in 1949, Marvin returned to his home in Dallas. A few short years after his return, Marvin met the love of his life, Glenda Faye Lowrey, who was a junior at Forest Avenue High School. Marvin’s hot car, amazing abilities on the dance floor and worldly maturity swept Glenda off her feet. The two were married on September 17th, 1954 and remained crazily in love through almost 70 years of marriage. Everyone will agree that the two were a perfect couple, enjoying life with friends and family while raising two wonderful daughters.
Marvin's restless nature and independent spirit was also apparent in his work history. As he sampled a wide variety of vocations, moving from one trade to another, it became obvious that Marvin would only be happy if he either owned the business, or at least was in charge. Marvin owned and operated many Exxon service stations in Houston and Dallas, before finally settling into a log prosperous career in construction, running his own crews.
Marvin’s list of hobbies included boating, golfing, riding horses with his daughters, horse races and betting, cooking (all meals especially Thanksgiving), following the Mavs & Cowboys and watching his grandkids grow up.
Marvin was known to all his friends and family to be an honest, devoted, hard working true gentleman. He was a man who was happy to be in the shadows at most events…smiling with pride while watching his family enjoy life.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Marla Wycoff Hughston & son in law Mark Hughston, sister Winnie Faye Hinger, sister Betty Joan Hamilton, granddaughter Kate Hughston-Kennedy and husband Walt Kennedy, grandson
Chris Hughston and wife Bridget Hughston, grandsons Ben Hughston and Parker Hughston, great grandchildren Wyatt Kennedy, Lauren Hughston and Theodore Hughston, and honorary family member Milagros Soledad Olivera. “Uncle Marvin” is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Marvin is preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by his wife Glenda Faye Lowrey Wycoff, daughter Laura Wycoff Arnold, mother Daisy Terry, father Frank Wycoff, brother Kenneth Wycoff and wife Margaret, brother in laws Jerry Hinger and David Hamilton, and granddaughter Ruby Ann Arnold.
